Coating Engine Components
Wrist Pins- Reduce galling. Galling can result in rotation failure and part failure due to lack of oiling.
- In most instances, engine can run without a bushing in the small end of connecting rod. Eliminates a soft bushing that gets beat out, or deforms, in use. Rod can be made larger, stronger.
- Spread heat from exhaust side of piston toward connecting rod and intake side of piston.
- Enables use of lower weight materials, such as titanium, for reciprocating weight savings and faster acceleration.
Valves
- Reduce galling between valve seat and seat in head. Galling results in an incomplete seal between the valve and the head, which reduces power.
- Eliminate undercut and moly coating on valve stems. Reduce friction between the stem and the valve guide. Stem can retain its intended diameter without undercut. Moly is inflexible and will flake off. Casidiam is flexible and will stay on the stem.
- Reduce galling between tip and lash cap.
Spring Retainers
- Spring retainers thin under spring pressures. Spring has to travel further in use, detunes motor as the race progresses, results in power loss.
- If spring retainers thin too far, spring retainer breaks and valve drops into cylinder, catastrophic failure.
- Coat id to mate to coated valve lock for easier disassembly.
Valve Locks
- Reduces galling between lock, valve stem and retainer.
- Easier and faster to disassemble valve assembly.
Cam Thrust Plates
- Holds cam in place to retain critical alignment. Parts have less room to contort, deform.
- Decreases wear on mating parts.
Rocker Shafts
- Enables use of lower weight materials, such as titanium, for weight savings.
- Allows rocker to run on shaft instead of bearings, eliminate potential weakness and failure point.
- Rocker angles may be engineered more freely, with no bearing limitations to take into account.
- Rocker shaft can be made larger diameter for greater strength.
Rockers
- Coat pads for reduced friction between rocker and vlave tip, push rod.
Roller Lifters
- Coat body for reduced side load induced friction between body and lifter bore.
- Coat axle to run roller inside diameter directly on axle outside diameter, eliminating potential bearing weakness and failure point.
- Axle can be made larger diameter for greater strength.
Flat Tappet Lifters
- Coat body for reduced side load induced friction between body and lifter bore.
Bucket Tappets
- Coat body for reduced side load induced friction between body and lifter bore.
- Coat top for reduced friction between cam and bucket tappet.
Cam Followers
- Coat pads for reduced friction between cam and followers.
Cams
- Coat cams for reduced friction between cam and followers, buckets.
Connecting Rods
- Coat rods to keep shoulders from wearing against crankshaft journals and/or adjacent rods.
Oil Pumps
- Coat shafts to reduce wear, galling to bushings and seals.
Fuel Pumps
- Coat shafts and impellers, gerotors, to reduce wear.
Power Steering Pumps
- Coat valves to reduce galling.
